Marketing and Audience Engagement

To me, a story cycle doesn't end when it gets published. You have to make sure people actually click on your website and read your piece. Students are always on their phones looking at social media; that's why our publication uses social media as a tool to market our content and bring in more unique viewers to our site.

Audience Engagement

Over the summer, me and my editorial board came up with the idea to start putting “Flushington Post” flyers in the bathroom stalls showcasing our most recent stories with QR codes links so people could read them from their phones. Our Interactive Design Editor designs a new layout of stories each month, and since we’ve started this analytics on our site have increased significantly. I’ve found this to be a great way to bump up our site analytics and increase our overall audience engagement.

Ad sales

Over the summer, I went to my city's local businesses and sold ads for our back to school magazine. This experience taught me a lot about the business side of a media program and how to be professional when communicating. Most meetings were in person so I could physically meet with business owners. Now, our business manager and I contact the same businesses for purchasing ads for our home site, as well as contacting new potential business partners to purchase ads to appear on our online news site.
